52 Week Crochet Challenge ~ Week 3

Happy weekend everyone! I'm flying in late with my blog post, as I've just seen week 4 has gone LIVE!!!!

Where does time go??

Q3. This week’s challenge is to crochet a flower, or a make a project that has a flower motif or theme to celebrate the arrival of spring....

It's been a tough couple of weeks for me emotionally and I tend to go to ground... it finally feels like I'm coming out the other side..... thankfully, my crochet has kept me busy and I've new wool arriving tomorrow on Mother's Day! I feel truly spoilt!  Just wish I could stop in all day tomorrow and make a start....... !!!

I've got a couple of flowers to share with you this week and a couple of questions to answer!

I'd never thought of tying my 'just finished' big project into this weeks challenge but it's fitting!

I followed the instructions over at Attic24 for Lucy's blooming flower cushion and duly bought her coffee :))

Here is my finished cushion! It's a real talking point.... just no one touch it...... yet!!!!!

Here are the two halves...

My little boy says, it looks like a giant sandwich !!!

Time for a Ta-da moment !!!!

I have had so many compliments I will definitely be making more as presents !

I really enjoyed this weeks challenge to make flowers and set about looking for ideas, my first flower came from Pinterest altho, I didn't save the link... it is easy to loose yourself on these boards isn't it!

Each of the petals had the same pattern to it, rolling it up and watching it come to life was fun! I used scrap wool which happened to be rainbow, I like how it's made up!

To finish it off I added 4 french knots and stitched it to my crochet journal elastic band!

I am REALLY pleased with this! Thank you for the challenge Red Berry Cottage

My second flower came from following a YouTube video and again, I am sorry no link was saved!! My head has been all over the place at the moment, I made this flower in memory of my Mum and intend to make it into a brooch to add to my wool bag :D

 Isn't it pretty!

Thank you for calling. Wishing you a great weekend and a Happy Mother's Day for tomorrow if you are celebrating.

Happy hooking

52 Week Crochet Challenge ~ Week 2

Q2. Start a crochet notebook, journal, scrapbook or blog.

Well, here we are at 'Little Wren Cottage' my brand new woolly blog! I am very disorganised when it comes to keeping my crochet wool and patterns altogether, and can loose notes  for months on end especially now as we settle into our new house, I can't find a thing some days!!! Hence, me finishing my blooming flower cushion last Friday, months and months after starting it!!

I have also started a crochet notebook/journal and plan to use it each week to make notes on the 52 Week Crochet Challenge so I can see where I am up to!

My next plan is to start another crochet hardcover A4 file/binder. I have one somewhere bursting at the seams with patterns I've collected over the years but it must still be packed away in a box. A good excuse to buy a nice new shiney one!

I look forward to popping by your blog if you are playing along with the challenge.

52 Week Crochet Challenge ~ Week 1

Q1. How do you celebrate National Crochet Month..

This is an interesting question to kick off the 52 Week Crochet Challenge over at Ravelry.

I am making some bunnies and abandoning them!!! Awe !!!! I have a very dear friend who does the same with little pieces of artwork that she has painted and I thought... as we are heading towards Easter, it might be a nice idea to do the same..

I have seen one or two or maybe 300 of these bunnies popping up on my Instagram feed and the temptation to have a go was overwhelming !! So, I had a look on Ravelry for a pattern!

It didn't take me long to find one I can tell you!

This little bunny was made from scrap wool but I quite like his rainbow finish!

   .... some bunny loves you!

The pattern I used is from the beautiful Green Dragonfly blog.

I hope you enjoy the pattern if you decide to make one!

Also, for National Crochet month I am planning to meet up with a friend and help her have a go at crocheting. I am really looking forward to that!

So, how are you celebrating?

Happy National Crochet Month!

Did you know it's National Crochet Month?

   No... I didn't but I do now!

To celebrate I am doing a number of things! I've joined a new group over at Ravelry an online knitting and crochet community.

I've taken the plunge and decided to take part in the 52 week crochet challenge.

I LOVE a good challenge and this is an absolutely super challenge organised by the lovely Julie Oparka over at Red Berry Crochet.

It's never too late to join and you join in the weeks you wish to take part in.. I'm hoping to share my week one with you soon!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome!

I am hoping to use this blog as a place to keep all my woolly scraplings together!

My first love was wool. I learnt myself to knit on our narrow boat at the weekends when all the grown ups disappeared down to the local watering hole!

I was 14!

I've knitted lots of different things over the years including scarecrows to raise money for my daughters school! Cross stitch quickly became my second love! Then I fell in love with paper crafts about 8 years ago, memory books and scrapbooks were the order of the day!

Atc's and inchie swaps soon followed when I joined a lovely craft forum, with the words, why don't you start a blog!

I have been blessed over the last 5 years to make some beautiful friendships that will last forever!

It's also been a tragic time for me and my family as we have been battered with one thing after another. Re shaping our lives time and time again.

At the end of the day it's been my saving grace to be able to turn to my handicrafts and switch 'off'

Quite often filling my bin and occasionally turning out something that I like! I am still on my artistic learning curve but starting to find myself!

In the meantime, however, every now and again I turn back to my first love..... Wool !!

And so, this brings me right back to my wanting to start this blog... to keep my woolly thoughts all in one place!

I hope you will make a cuppa, pull up a seat and join me here occasionally as I share my latest Ta-da moments and other happenings that make my soul sing!

  Happy hooking! Gez xx
